BMAC Curriculum


BMAC implements its curriculum through the collaborative efforts of the therapists, parents and other family members, and caregivers. It addresses all areas and phases of development:

Learning Readiness
Imitation of manipulative and non-manipulative behaviors such as sitting down for an extended period of time, maintaining eye contact, as well as the ability to follow one-step directions.

Receptive Language
Means the recognition of the non-verbal naming words (nouns) and action words (verbs) and discrimination between multiple variables. 

Expressive Language
Equates to the verbal imitation and recognition of sounds, consonant-vowel combinations, words, phrases, nouns, etc. 

Language Concepts
A combination of conceptual language components essential for extended (verbal or non-verbal) communication, which includes the concepts of colors, opposites, emotions, community helpers, etc. 

Descriptive Language
Descriptive expressive language components that foster speaking in extended sentences, from simple to complex word associations to role-playing, narrating stories, creating story sequence and recollection.

Pre-Conversational
Tasks such as asking, seeking information, leading conversation, action and reciprocal statements are developed, broadened and enhanced. This is to teach the child to attend to, initiate, and sustain conversation with both peers and adults. 

 

Play and Socialization
Play and socialization are also addressed, including playing board games, gross motor games, play (both concrete and abstract) are all key components to peer play.

 

Cognitive Skills
Early and advanced cognitive skills such as matching, sorting, sequencing, categorizing and identifying of similarities and absurdities are taught. Academic Skills
Pre-school basics are addressed in this area: counting, phonics, the generalization of acquired skills to worksheets and basic academic skills in math, reading, spelling are taken up.

 

Motor Development
Fine and gross motor skills are addressed, such as writing, coloring, basic ball play, riding a bicycle, etc.

 
Self-Help Skills
The Child’s program includes developing age-appropriate self-help skills in dressing, grooming, toileting, etc.
